Portchester Sailing Club is located in the upper reaches of Portsmouth Harbour, adjacent to Portchester Castle.

Founded in 1928, the club boasts a large clubhouse, 200 moorings, and a spacious boat park for dinghies during the summer and yachts during the winter.

The club caters for dinghy sailors, yacht sailors and fishermen, supported by a great social programme.

Whatever your level of interest in sailing and leisure boating, Portchester Sailing Club has something to offer you.

First Cruiser Evening Race
Written by Paul Bayliss
1st May 2008
The cruiser evening series got off to a lively start on 29th April. With torrential rain and 30 knots at 5pm, some thought all hope was lost, but on the stroke of half past six the skies cleared, the wind dropped leaving the door open for a lovely evening sail for the eight entered boats and crews.

Andy Pidduck on the Committee boat laid a port biased start line which Steve Freeman on Scramasax nailed to perfection to lead at Basket. The roaring Soling of Ian McInnes quickly assumed the lead, never to be seen again, but he had a daunting handicap to defend. The fleet had a long beat down the creek in slack water, before bearing off for a reach to Pile 98, a fetch to Admiralty 3, before heading home, mostly under spinnakers (if declared). Reg Sillence in Beltana eventually hoisted his spinnaker sending the moths flying (!) and stormed off into a good lead.

But an ominous black cloud threatened to spoil the party. With spinnakers now swinging wildly, and a flurry of gybes, the fleet wobbled back up the harbour with the wind gusting fitfully. Mogil Maid decided that discretion was the better part of valour and dropped their kite, and Beltana ragged theirs in an attempt to round Basket for the final time.

At the finishing post, Beltana won a deserved victory, followed closely by Scramasax with Chanel Ghost coming third.

CHANGE OF PLANS

The race instructions are now posted in the downloads section.

PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE TO GURNARD FROM EAST GURNARD.

Due to several weddings in the Lymington area on the Saturday taking up the group dining locations, we are now not able to have a BBQ in the garden of the Mayflower Public House
They are happy for us to eat in the restaurant but do not have enough staff for a BBQ as well.

28th April 2008
The first Folly Jolly of 2008 was blessed with a nice sail over and fair weather for Saturday afternoon and evening allowing the traditional get together before eating ashore.

16 boats attended, amongst them Sea Star, True Blew, Mischief, Gilly VI, Tonnanti, Tania, Astrados, Scramasax, Le Frais, Spruce, Suzette, Triple xXx, Flair, Elzear, Seraph and Gallivant.

40 sat down to eat in the Folly and enjoyed the usual good food and dancing on the tables.

Sunday saw a damp start but this soon passed to give a quiet trip back.

Lewmar Open Race
Written by Andy Pidduck
9th April 2008
Congratulations to Channel Ghost on winning the Lewmar Open for 2008.
A very close finish on handicap gave Channel Ghost the edge over Gallivant by just 1 second!

Our thanks should go to Lewmar for sponsoring the event and the competitors that braved a wet and windy day.
