Training Information
Portchester Sailing Club is a recognised RYA Training Centre offering sailing training in a safe and professional environment. The club is a Volvo Championship Club offering young people the opportunity for great fun and satisfaction. The club provides excellent race training and coaching, guiding and encouraging young sailors to take part in club events and where appropriate to qualify for regional and national squads.
Juniors are able to achieve RYA levels One to Two and racing and advanced sailing skills as well as the clubs own broadly based `badge and certificate` scheme.
Due to demand for training and coaching sessions these must be booked in advance through the Junior Co-ordinator.
Weekend Courses
Formal training will be carried out on the water by RYA Instructors using the club Toppers, Enterprises and RYA Oppies and when appropriate Juniors own boats. Juniors will be divided into ability groups and courses will be targeted towards achieving a particular level.
Junior Events
A series of short course races suitable for Toppers and similar boats will be offered on some Sunday afternoons. These provide accelerated learning of boat handling skills and rules even for the experience!
A Junior Regatta will also be held in June.
Weekday Evenings
Short sessions of coaching and supervised sailing (not training) will be offered on Monday evenings for those doing level 3 and above.
Winter Saturday Sessions
These land based sessions will be held at 4:30 to 6.00 pm on Saturday afternoons during the winter. A range of topics will be covered at various levels.
